Sonungo ("we," "our," or "us") is a student platform committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our services, including the Sonungo Job Tracker web application, the Sonungo Chrome Extension, and the Gmail integration feature. By using our services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

To provide our services, we collect the following types of information:

• Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture via Google OAuth.
• Application Data: Job applications you track, including company names, positions, URLs, notes, and deadlines you provide.
• Gmail Data (Optional): If you connect your Gmail account, we access your inbox in read-only mode to automatically detect job application confirmation emails. We only read email metadata and content necessary for identifying job applications. We do not modify, send, or delete any emails.
• Anonymous Usage Data: If you opt in to sharing, anonymized application data (e.g., "x users applied to Company Y") contributes to community search metrics. Your identity is never revealed.
• Portfolio Data: Resume and portfolio information you voluntarily upload.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain our job tracking service
• To automatically detect and track job applications from your Gmail inbox (only if you opt in)
• To display community application trends (anonymized, opt-in only)
• To improve our services and user experience
• To communicate important updates about our service

4. Gmail Data Usage

Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

• We only request gmail.readonly access — we cannot send, modify, or delete your emails
• Gmail data is used solely to identify job application-related emails
• We do not use Gmail data for advertising purposes
• We do not allow humans to read your email content unless required for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or with your explicit consent
• You can disconnect Gmail access at any time from the Settings page, which immediately revokes our access and deletes stored tokens

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Google Cloud Firestore with industry-standard security measures. OAuth tokens are stored server-side and are never exposed to the client. We implement appropriate data collection, storage, and processing practices to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal information.

While we do our absolute best to maintain maximum security and our systems are built with security in mind, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and we are not responsible or liable for any data loss, data leaks, or unauthorized access to your information.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We do not share your application data, Gmail data, or personal identifiers with anyone, except as required by law or to protect our rights. Anonymized community metrics (opt-in only) show aggregate data only and cannot be traced back to individual users.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your saved jobs, applications, and portfolio data at any time. Disconnecting Gmail immediately revokes access and deletes stored authentication tokens. To request full account deletion, please contact us.

• Request full deletion of your account and data

9. Sonungo Student Platform

Sonungo is a student platform that also includes Canvas Homework Reminders, a Telegram bot that sends automated notifications for Canvas LMS assignments. The Canvas Reminder Bot has its own privacy policy, which can be found at canvas.sonungo.com/legal. Both services are part of the Sonungo ecosystem and share the same commitment to user privacy and data security.
